Terms & Conditions

The agreement between you and Tilery AS: how you may use the tile service, what you pay, and how either of us can end it.

Last updated 9 Aug 2026

The Agreement

These Terms & Conditions are an agreement between you and Tilery AS (org. nr. 837 547 652), a Norwegian company — "Tilery", "we", or "us". By creating an account or using the service you accept these terms. Questions about them are welcome at support@tilery.eu.

Use of Map Data

The map tiles provided by Tilery.eu are generated from OpenStreetMap data, which is maintained by a community of volunteers. While we strive to keep our tiles updated with recent OpenStreetMap data, OpenStreetMap data may not always reflect the most current road conditions, closures, or new construction.

Our tiles are made for displaying maps. You are welcome to use them as the basemap in a navigation or routing application — but you must not rely on our tiles in applications where a map error could directly lead to death, personal injury, or serious property damage: think emergency dispatch, aviation or marine navigation, or autonomous vehicle control. You are responsible for judging whether the data is fit for your application (see Limitation of Liability).

Acceptable Use

Tilery.eu is pay-as-you-go: you buy credit packs and each request is metered and deducted from your credit balance. As long as you keep a positive balance and stay within the rate limits described in our documentation, your usage is considered acceptable.

The following activities are prohibited and may result in immediate suspension or termination of your account:

  • Attempting to circumvent rate limits or metering through technical means
  • Sharing API keys with unauthorized parties, or using multiple accounts to circumvent rate limits
  • Using the service in a manner that could harm, disable, or overload our infrastructure
  • Automated scraping or bulk downloading of tiles outside of normal map rendering use cases
  • Any other activity that we reasonably determine to be abusive or harmful to the service

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or engage in abusive behavior, with or without notice. If you need higher rate limits, get in touch.

Attribution Requirements

The map data we serve is derived from OpenStreetMap, which is licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL). This license requires that you properly attribute the data to OpenStreetMap contributors.

You must include the following attribution in any application that uses our map tiles:

Required (minimum)
© <a href="https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright">OpenStreetMap contributors</a>
Optional (recommended)
<a href="https://github.com/protomaps/basemaps">Protomaps</a> © <a href="https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright">OpenStreetMap contributors</a>

This attribution must be clearly visible on your map, typically displayed in the bottom-right or bottom-left corner. Failure to provide proper attribution is a violation of the ODbL license and these terms.

Limitation of Liability and Indemnification

Tilery.eu provides map tiles "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, reliability, or suitability of the map data for any particular purpose.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Tilery.eu and its operators shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of our service, including but not limited to:

  • Loss of data, profits, or business opportunities
  • Errors or inaccuracies in map data
  • Service interruptions or unavailability
  • Any damages resulting from the use of map data for navigation or routing purposes

Claims that arise from your application are yours to handle. You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Tilery.eu and its operators from third-party claims, damages, and reasonable costs (including legal fees) arising from your application, your use of the service, or your breach of these terms — except to the extent a claim results from our own gross negligence or willful misconduct.

Your use of Tilery.eu constitutes your agreement to assume all risks associated with using the service. Nothing in this section limits rights that mandatory law grants you as a consumer.

Service Availability

We strive to maintain high availability of our tile service, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the service, but will notify you by email at least one month before making any material changes that would affect your ability to use the service. Discontinuing the service is different: that carries three months’ notice and a refund of whatever credits you have left (see Termination and Your Credits).

Pricing and Billing

Tilery.eu is prepaid: you buy credit packs and usage is metered per request at the per-call price in effect at the time of the request. Credit purchases are processed by Creem, our merchant of record: the purchase is made from Creem, and Creem issues your invoice. All prices are quoted excluding VAT — Creem calculates and adds VAT at checkout based on your billing country.

Pricing has two parts, and we may change either with at least one month’s email notice before an increase takes effect. The first is what a credit costs — how many credits a pack buys. This is our normal lever: changing it never affects credits you already hold, which keep buying exactly as much service as when you bought them. The second is what an operation costs in credits, which we change only when the underlying cost of providing it changes.

If we increase the credit price of an operation, we will add credits to your existing balance so that credits you have already bought buy the same amount of service as before. You are never exposed to a price rise on credits you have already paid for. Otherwise price changes apply only to usage and purchases made after the change — the cost of past usage is fixed at the price captured when each request was made.

Spend is settled against your balance hourly. Usage served after your balance is exhausted (for example in the final settlement window before service pauses) remains payable: it is shown as unbilled usage in your dashboard and is deducted automatically from your next top-up. It is never invoiced separately, and your balance is never taken below zero.

Which pack sizes you can buy depends on your account. Larger packs unlock as you use credits, and we cap how large a balance a purchase may leave you holding, based on how fast you have been using credits recently — so you are not encouraged to prepay far more than you need. Both limits relax automatically as your usage grows; neither affects credits you already hold. If you need a larger prepayment than the site offers, contact us.

Credits do not expire while you are using Tilery. Any usage or top-up keeps your balance alive. If an account goes completely unused for twelve months, we may expire the remaining credits — but not silently: we will email you 60, 30 and 7 days beforehand, and a single request or top-up in that window resets the clock. This exists so genuinely abandoned balances do not sit on our books forever; it is not a use-it-or-lose-it deadline on an active account.

Refunds and Right of Withdrawal

Your statutory right. If you are a consumer in the EU/EEA, you have a right to withdraw from a credit purchase within 14 days without giving a reason (in Norway: angrerett under the angrerettloven). This right is unconditional: it does not depend on anything below, and we cannot refuse it. Business customers have no statutory right of withdrawal.

Immediate access, and what it means for a withdrawal. Credits are supplied to your account immediately on purchase, rather than after the 14-day withdrawal period. By accepting this refund policy at checkout you expressly request that immediate supply, and you acknowledge the consequence: if you then withdraw within the 14 days, we may deduct the value of the credits you have already used from the refund — that is, refund the unused portion of the purchase. This is a deduction the law provides for; it does not touch the right to withdraw itself.

Our own policy, which goes further. Beyond the statutory 14 days, we may also refund a purchase up to one month after it was made. A refund we grant is normally the full payment amount, even if some or all of its credits have been used — but we reserve the right to instead refund only the unused portion of a purchase, for example on repeated requests or where we see abuse. This applies to business customers too.

Because it goes beyond what the law requires, this part is at our discretion: we may decline a request that is abusive, or repeated requests from the same account. In practice we grant them, in full. Nothing here limits the statutory right described above.

If the refunded amount is more than your remaining credit balance, we close your account. If your remaining balance covers the refunded amount, the refund only removes those credits and your account stays open. (A refund limited to unused credits never exceeds your balance, so closure only arises when we refund the full amount.)

When we close an account this way, access stops immediately: you can no longer sign in and your API keys stop serving tiles. We keep your account and its data for 60 days, then delete them permanently. We email you when we close the account, and again before the deletion becomes final. If you think a closure is a mistake, reply to either email — during those 60 days we can still reopen the account. After that the data is gone and cannot be recovered.

To request a refund or exercise your right of withdrawal, use the refund page in your dashboard or email support@tilery.eu.

Chargebacks and Payment Disputes

A chargeback is a claim you make through your card issuer rather than through us. It is not the same as a refund, which we handle ourselves and which we grant readily. Before every purchase you acknowledge that refund policy at checkout; a record of that acknowledgment and of your API usage is kept, and we rely on both when a payment is disputed.

When we are told of a chargeback, we suspend the account immediately. You can no longer sign in, and your API keys stop serving tiles. We also reverse any unused credits from the disputed payment. This happens automatically, because the money has already been taken back from us by the time we hear about it.

We do not schedule the account for deletion in this situation. Unlike a closure following a refund, your account and its records are kept while the dispute is open, and afterwards for as long as we may need them to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. Both sides can then rely on the same facts.

A suspension for a chargeback is not lifted. Once a payment has been disputed through the bank, we cannot safely continue serving the account. So if you see a charge on your card statement you do not recognise — Tilery payments appear under the name of our payment provider, Creem — please write to support@tilery.eu before disputing it. We grant refunds readily, and if the payment was made without your knowledge we want to know.

Termination and Your Credits

You can delete your account at any time from your profile page. Deletion has a 60-day grace period during which you can sign back in to cancel it. Unused credits are forfeited when the deletion completes — spend down your balance before deleting, or request a refund instead.

If we terminate your account for a violation of these terms (see Acceptable Use), remaining credits may be forfeited to the extent permitted by law. If we terminate your account without cause, we will refund your unused credit balance as described below.

If we discontinue the service, we will give you at least three months’ notice by email. From the moment we announce it, no further credits can be bought — we will not take money for a service we have decided to end. The service keeps running normally throughout the notice period, so you can use up the credits you already hold. On the closing date, we refund whatever is left.

Whenever we owe you a balance refund — whether because we closed your account without cause or because we shut the service down — it is worked out by going back through your purchases, newest first, refunding each one in full (or in part, for the last one needed) until your unused balance is covered. These are the cases where we do issue a partial refund: the full-payment-only rule in Refunds and Right of Withdrawal governs refunds you request, not ones we owe you because we ended things. Trial credits are not refundable, because no payment was made for them.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time. We will notify you by email at least one month before a material change takes effect; minor changes such as clarifications may simply be posted on this page. Continued use of the service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the modified terms. The most current version is always available on this page.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by Norwegian law, and disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of the Norwegian courts. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer-protection rules of the country where you live, or of your right to bring proceedings there.
